Coco Palms Cultural Advisory Committee (CPCAC)

A Commitment to Honoring Kaua‘i’s Heritage and Future

The Coco Palms Cultural Advisory Committee (CPCAC) was established in October 2013 to ensure that the revitalization of the iconic Coco Palms property honors the deep cultural and historical significance of Kaua‘i. Working closely with Reef Capital Partners, their affiliates, and the hotel management team, the committee is dedicated to creating a sustainable resort that reflects the values of the island, the people, and the ‘āina (land).

Guided by a foundation of Aloha (love), Ho‘okipa (hospitality), and Ho‘ihi (reverence), the CPCAC’s work is centered on building a project that is not only a destination but also a living tribute to the history and culture of Kaua‘i.

Our Guiding Principles

Our guiding principles serve as the foundation of every decision made throughout the development process. The CPCAC is committed to:
  • Preserving the integrity of the land and honoring its spiritual significance.
  • Ensuring that all development aligns with sustainable practices, respecting both the environment and the cultural legacy of Kaua‘i.
  • Creating a place of Aloha and Ho‘okipa, where visitors and the local community can connect, learn, and celebrate Kaua‘i’s traditions.

Our Objectives

The work of the CPCAC is focused on three key objectives that guide the project from concept to completion:

Collaborating with the Hawaiian Community

We aim to bring together respected members of the Hawaiian host community to share their insights and wisdom. By listening to these voices, we ensure that the spirit of the land is upheld and that the project supports a sustainable future for all.

Creating a Guiding Document of Reverence

We will develop a comprehensive document that emphasizes ho‘ihi—the reverence and respect for the property’s history and cultural significance. This document will help guide the design and programming of the resort, ensuring that the land’s mana (spiritual energy) is honored in every aspect of the project.

Engaging Kaua‘i’s Voices

It’s important that all voices from the Kaua‘i community are heard as the project moves forward. The CPCAC is dedicated to providing opportunities for locals to share their mana‘o (thoughts), ensuring that the final result truly reflects the values of the island and its people.

Our Commitment

At the heart of the Coco Palms Cultural Advisory Committee is a deep commitment to creating a space that reflects the best of Kaua‘i—its culture, its people, and its future. We recognize that this is not just a development project; it is a responsibility and an opportunity to honor the legacy of the land and its connection to the community.

As we move forward in partnership with Reef Capital Partners and other stakeholders, we remain committed to ensuring that the revitalized Coco Palms will be a place where all who visit feel the spirit of Aloha, experience the warmth of Ho‘okipa, and witness the power of community working together.
